Energy

Building Energy Modelling (BEM) is the practice of creating digital representations of a building’s energy flows, based on the principles of building physics and thermodynamics. Through BEM, we characterise the operational energy needs of an existing or future building and predict its consumption patterns, while ensuring thermal comfort and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) levels.

We run software simulations on our custom-built parametric models to study the effects of design alternatives on engineering projects, for both renovation and new constructions. We also provide financial guidance to manage the related investment project and base our recommendations on cost-efficiency metrics.

Our recommendations fall within the following project areas:

  • Operational Energy Simulation:
    • HVAC systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Secondary equipment
  • Constructive Systems Thermal Studies:
    • Insulation
    • Structure
    • Glazing
    • Finishing
  • Passive Solutions:
    • Geometry optimisation
    • Solar gains capture
    • Internal heat gains capture
    • Natural airflow
  • Solar Photovoltaic System Sizing:
    • Panel technology selection
    • Sizing and quantification
    • Orientation
